DPC’s Triet Nguyen and First Street’s Dr. Jeremy Porter were panelists for the NFMA Conference discussion, 'Severe Weather Events, Property Insurance and Municipal Credit.'

The 2024 NFMA Conference featured a panel discussion on ‘Severe Weather Events, Property Insurance and Municipal Credit.’ DPC’s Triet Nguyen and First Street’s Dr. Jeremy Porter were panelists.

Nguyen spoke about what the property insurance crisis means for municipal bond analysts and covered:

  • Climate risk is here and now
  • FEMA cannot be the answer
  • Municipal credits most at risk
  • Addressing the risk – disclosure and mitigation

First Street provides physical and financial risk metrics for key climate hazards such as Flood, Wildfire, Wind, Extreme Heat, and Air Quality. Porter’s presented sobering data and insights into the insurance issue, concluding that America’s climate insurance bubble is huge and set to pop. View his presentation here.
